What are the FBR return due dates for tax year 2026?
| Taxpayer | Last date |
|---|---|
| Salaried and other individuals | 30 September 2026 |
| Associations of persons (AOPs) | 30 September 2026 |
| Companies with a 30 June year-end | 31 December 2026 |
These dates come from section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance. Companies with a different year-end file within the period the law allows after that year-end.
Will FBR extend the 2026 deadline?
At the time of writing we found no notification extending it. The law lets an individual apply for an extension of up to 15 days under section 119, but only before the due date. In 2025 FBR publicly rejected reports of an extension, then issued an extension days later. Plan to file by 30 September, and check FBR's website for any notification.
What happens if you miss the income tax return deadline?
Late filing can attract a penalty, and it delays your entry on the Active Taxpayer List, which means higher withholding tax on bank, property and vehicle transactions until you are back on it. Penalty amounts are set in the law and change, so we do not quote a figure here; ask before you assume. The practical advice is to file late rather than not at all. See non-filer tax rates in Pakistan.
Can you still file in the last few days?
Yes, if you have your NTN, IRIS login and documents ready. The IRIS portal is usually busiest in the final week, so start early. If you cannot log in, fix that first; see FBR IRIS login and registration help. If you have no NTN, register first; see NTN registration in Pakistan. Then follow the steps in income tax filing in Pakistan.
